Colours of Christmas: Our 2024 Featured Trees, Part 1

Can any colour be counted as a Christmas colour? –We certainly think so! As passionate decorators, your Christmas Elves constantly ponder which colours complement one another, which emotions a given colour might convey, and what role colour has in making Christmas magic. The answers we discover lead our stylists to create Featured Trees each year.

In 2024, we have decided to use our Featured Trees to teach fellow holiday enthusiasts how enjoyable it can be to explore the limitless possibilities of colour. Come along as we explore the first six of this year’s trees and learn about a new and improved way to find items by colour on our website.

Before we head out, make sure you set yourself a reminder for Thursday 7 November, when we post our second blog in this series with a further 6 Featured Christmas Trees. You won’t want to miss it!

Simplified Searching

Christmas Elves have made it easy (and fun) to search for decorations and décor by colour. Gone are the Christmases Past when we all had to perform and refine endless search bar forays to dig for everything we needed to fulfil our decorating vision.

Christmases Present still honour everyone’s traditional favourites: red, green, gold, and white. (We can’t see that changing anytime soon – and who would ever want to celebrate without those gorgeous colours?)

At the same time, many of us have welcomed a greater variety of colours in our homes during the holiday season, including playful pinks, reverent blues, spectacular metallics (rose gold, silver, and copper), rustic browns, and even summery shades of orange. –With so many new varicoloured and vibrant options, we’re excited to see what Christmas Future will bring!

To explore all these colours and more, head to our homepage and click on the ‘Colours of Christmas’ tab at the far right of the main menu. All the colour groupings will immediately display. Simply click on the name or image of the desired colour to view a comprehensive list of all products associated with it.

Now for the best part: you can then sort and filter the entire list by brand, price (range, ascending, or descending), featured items, best-sellers, newest pieces, by review (most to fewest stars), and alphabetically A to Z or reverse alphabetically Z to A. Talk about a time-saver! Our Colours of Christmas tab makes discovering new products, putting together looks, and shopping by colour easier than ever.

Colour Families

When our stylists plan a Featured Tree, they rely on established colour families, lists of colours that are related to one another. Once they work out which colours ‘go together’, they can then examine other colours in each family to see which finer shades really ‘work together’. Here are some examples of our abbreviated colour family lists:

2024 Featured Christmas Trees (1 through 6)

A Christmas Carol

Inspired by the visions of a bountiful holiday celebration that the Ghost of Christmas Present revealed to Ebenezer Scrooge in Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol, our first featured tree surprises and delights. Sumptuous crimson and emerald green, accompanied by caroller figurines and candles (battery powered LED) evoke quaint Victorian scenes. The unconventional choice to include black magnolia and white rose floristry creates an even more opulent feel that elevates this timeless concept. We love how these seemingly contrasting elements work so well together, and that’s testament to the skills and brilliance of our sensational stylists.

Bohemian Chic

If understated elegance is your cup of tea, then look to our Bohemian Chic tree for your decorating inspo. The blend of soft browns and creams with dusty pinks, soft golds, and muted greens conveys a cozy femininity. Rustic hessian ribbon, cuddly squirrel figurines, soft magnolia floristry, and shiny baubles offer a playful take on Danish hygge. Immerse yourself in Bohemian Chic and transform you home with vignettes, centrepieces, wreaths, and more that draw upon this look. Who knows? These colours and textures are so on-trend that you might dream of returning to them when you want to redecorate.

Feeling Grinchy

‘Grinchify’ the season by decorating ‘Youville’ with Whoville’s King of Christmas. Everybody’s former holiday humbug has his very own – and rather extensive – range of décor and branded merchandise. If you’re a Grinch groupie, you’re spoilt for choice. In our homage to one of the greatest Chrissie characters of all time, we combined lime ‘grinch’ green (one of our actual Colours of Christmas!) with candy red, snowy white, and the most classic of greens. Oversized stars and glittery poinsettias jumbled together with candy-striped baubles and plush toys encircle this monument to ‘Grinchdom’. It’s a feast for the senses. The Grinch has his own unique vibe. Get into it.

Precious Metals

Merry and shining bright! No one can deny the value of gold among the traditional colours of the festive season. Silver also holds a resounding appeal. However, we’ve put these two metallic mainstays together and added stunning champagne gold and creamy ivory. Armfuls of rustic gold leaf sprays and sparkling silver poinsettias mingle with gold baubles in delicate hues. Velvet-covered snowflakes scattered across the lustrous floristry treat the eye to shapes and textures that contrast with the other elements. We think that blending metallics is here to stay. Try creating combinations of your own. Besides gold and silver, you can search for rose gold, champagne gold, and copper via the Colours of Christmas tab.

Starlight

What does the colour blue bring to your mind at Christmastime? Stars in the night sky? Luxury? Feelings of quiet contentment? The hush that falls over the neighbourhood on Christmas Eve? – Well, for us it’s all of those and more.

Perhaps this is the year you’ll explore a blue-hued holiday colour palette. We recommend placing cooler and warmer shades of blue side by side and layer these with muted golds and whites. Against royal blue and white magnolia floristry, gold stars softly twinkle while glass and sequined blue baubles shimmer. Gift boxes in blue and gold conjure up feelings of generosity and memories of childhood visits from Santa. We adore this starry night ‘blue Christmas’.

O Holy Night

Christian holiday traditions centre on the joy everlasting brought into the world by the arrival of the Prince of Peace. For the faithful, the wonder of Christmas – the birth of Jesus – will always be the ‘reason for the season’.

When using the Nativity to guide your decorating, we suggest turning to the colours of the figurines’ robes. In our example above, burgundy and cream directed our stylists to complementary mossy greens and cool browns. A simple evergreen tree, pinecones, delicate glass baubles, and poinsettias in ivory and burgundy highlight the figurines. The story of ‘O Holy Night’ needs to further embellishment.

Now it’s your turn. Choose one of our Featured Christmas Trees and shop the colour palette using our Colours of Christmas tab. We can’t wait to hear about your adventures in the exciting world of colour!

And remember: we'll be revealing six more Featured Christmas Trees on Thursday 7 November. See you then!
